Sexual Harassment Training

13,000 CSU employees, including a large contingent from our campus, will be on board when this training ship sets sail. You’re receiving this announcement because your name is on the passenger list, and we wouldn’t think of leaving without you!

Perhaps you’ve been hearing talk of California’s new harassment training law mandating that all supervisors complete a two-hour interactive training course on sexual harassment. What you’ve been hearing is true, i.e., you’ve been identified as a supervisor/lead by our campus and will be required to complete a Web-based training course by early December. What you probably haven’t heard, though, is that this training is really good. In fact, once you get into it we think you’ll be surprised at what you didn’t know.

Sure, we could have scheduled months of classroom training sessions and asked you to rearrange your calendar, travel to a seminar, and participate in some embarrassing role plays. On the other hand, we could acknowledge that you have lots of demands on your time and recognize that if you are being mandated to take training, then you’d prefer to take it at your convenience, not ours. That’s what we did.

As a system, we’re providing you with a customized Web-based training course designed specifically to be relevant to us while complying with the new law. You can take the training at your convenience as long as you meet the legal deadline. Workplace Answers® (see http://www.workplaceanswers.com/) has prepared a highly interactive course overflowing with real-life contemporary campus stories. The stories are dangerously close to what really happens in the workplace when supervisors and employees lack practical knowledge.

You probably have some questions about this training and why you are being required to participate. We’ve tried to anticipate your questions and provide some answers in the links below. But if you still have questions, you’ll see a final link that will take you to our campus harassment training coordinator.

Finally, some time during the week of October 17th you’ll be receiving a very important e-mail from Workplace Answers. This is the letter that contains your unique link to the training and instructions on how to begin. You’ll receive regular e-mail reminders until you’ve completed the training requirement. We’re counting on you to help our campus reach a goal of 100% compliance and gain a comprehensive understanding of the latest issues related to harassment on our campus. It could be one of the best investments we’ve made.
